Senior Pictures in Knoxville, TN: The Best Sunset Locations for Class of 2027

Golden hour is my favorite time to photograph senior sessions, and for good reason. Even on an overcast evening, the light is soft, flattering, and beautiful. It helps your eyes sparkle, creates natural skin tones, and makes genuine smiles stand out.

Unlike the harsh midday sun, golden hour wraps everything in a warm, dreamy glow. Greens appear richer and softer instead of bright or neon, creating timeless images.

During the summer, evening sessions also mean cooler temperatures and a much more comfortable experience. You'll be able to relax, move naturally, and enjoy your session without the intense heat of the middle of the day.

The combination of beautiful light, comfortable weather, and East Tennessee's stunning scenery is what makes summer golden hour sessions some of my absolute favorites.

Congratulations! You’ve scheduled your senior session, and I am so honored to capture this moment for you. Senior year is an incredible year full of milestones you’ve waited years for, and my goal is simple: to capture you exactly as you are right now.

This is more than a photoshoot. It’s an experience where you feel comfortable, confident, and seen. I don't want stiff poses or fleeting trends; I want natural, beautiful images that reflect your personality and your passions. You can relax, have fun, and trust that the images we create will be something you’ll look back on for years and say, “That was me.”

The Location: Seven Islands State Birding Park

We will meet at the parking lot and walk up the hill to the wildflower fields and view.

A Note on Footwear: I do not recommend wearing heels for the walk. Please wear comfortable shoes/flats for the walk; if you want to wear heels in your photos, bring them along and we will swap them out. Many times, girls go barefoot/ simple shoes for fields.

Part II: Concrete Trails

This is where I would recommend having heels for a more dressed up photo. At the bottom of the hill by the parking lot there is a bathroom and paved trail that looks beautiful we will end at.

Amenities: Restrooms are available close to the parking lot

Make it Personal: What to Bring

Your session should feel like you. Think about incorporating items that tell your story:

The Classics: Your graduation cap and gown, or a Varsity jacket.

Your Passions: Sports gear, a musical instrument, or items from your favorite hobby.

Heirlooms: Special jewelry or family pieces that mean something to you.

The Essentials: It could potentially be windy. Bring anything you would want for your hair on a windy day.

Outfit Changes: Typically, seniors bring one outfit change. If we are up on the hill for the outfit change, I will have a couple of blankets we can use for a dressing station. We will also take photos on the paved trail which is right by the restrooms at the end of the session.

Family: We will definitely get a mom a daughter shot, feel free to bring anyone else!

The Style Guide: What to Wear

Most importantly: Wear something you love. When you feel confident, it shows in every frame.

Colors: If you are unsure of what to wear, I recommend neutrals, pastels, or soft tones. If you are thinking of wearing white, I suggest an off-white or cream—it photographs much softer against the skin.

Textures & Patterns: Simple patterns and textures (like lace, knits, or linen) add beautiful depth. Clothing with weight will help prevent any wrinkling (Don't worry, I can do a little "post-processing ironing" in editing if needed!)

Movement: If you love dresses, those with movement photograph beautifully.

Text Me: If you’re stuck between two outfits, lay them out and text me a photo! I’m happy to help you decide.

What to Expect: My Posing Philosophy

Don’t be stressed—I’ve got you! The goal is NOT to take as many photos as possible with you forcing a smile at the camera the entire time. I always want these sessions to feel much more natural than that and comfortable. I don't do strictly "stiff" poses. I use simple movements and prompts to help you look natural in the environment. You might hear me say things like:

"Smile at the horizon"

"Tease your hair a little bit."

"Slow mo run towards the mountains and look back and smile at us!"

I will give you tiny "pro-adjustments" throughout (like “relax the shoulder closest to me” or “point your toe”). I promise these aren't because you're doing anything wrong—they are just the finishing touches that make a photo look editorial and effortless.
