Although this engagement session took place in Brentwood, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, it reminded me why I love photographing couples all across Tennessee. As a Knoxville elopement photographer and micro wedding photographer, I work with couples who value genuine connection, meaningful experiences, and photos that feel true to who they are.
I first met Allie at a wedding dress fitting for a mutual friend in Knoxville, so it felt fitting that we would reconnect for her engagement session.
Because Allie and her fiancé are both busy students, I traveled to Brentwood to make the experience as easy and stress-free as possible. Before the session, we created a rain backup plan, talked through multiple location options, and carefully planned outfits to match the vision they had in mind. Since they're considering an elopement or micro wedding after graduation, it was important that their engagement photos felt just as intentional, relaxed, and authentic as the celebration they're planning.
One thing I always tell couples is that engagement photos aren't just for save-the-dates and wedding invitations. Even if you're skipping a traditional wedding, an engagement session is a beautiful way to celebrate this season of life together. It gives you the chance to slow down, connect, and preserve memories before your next chapter begins.
By the time I packed my camera bag and headed to Nashville, I felt like Allie and I were already friends. The session was effortless, the evening light was beautiful, and I couldn't wait to send their sneak peeks.
What made the experience even more meaningful was hearing their response.
"HOLY *** THESE ARE AMAZING. I'm genuinely speechless. Thank you for being so supportive and making me feel so beautiful and special."
A little later she messaged me again:
"My friends and family are obsessed with the previews. I've been showing them off left and right. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your work."
Honestly, for couples like that, I'd climb Mount Everest for a photo session.
She also left this Google review:
"Amazing experience! Rose drove to us in Nashville and was so collaborative through the entire process. Turnaround was quick, and she made me feel so special and beautiful. The entire experience was stress-free and easy."
As a Knoxville wedding photographer, those words mean more than I can express. My goal is always to create an experience that feels supportive, fun, and completely personalized to each couple.
Planning Your Engagement Session: What Made This One So Successful
This session felt natural and carefree, but it wasn't because we showed up and hoped for the best. The best engagement sessions happen when we spend time preparing beforehand.
Here's what helped make this session such a success:
We Planned Outfits Together
Choosing outfits wasn't a one-time conversation. We talked through colors, styles, and how everything would photograph in the location they chose. The right outfit choices can completely elevate the look and feel of your gallery.
We Discussed Multiple Locations
Rather than picking the first spot we found, we explored several location ideas and inspiration photos. This helped us find a setting that felt true to them and matched the aesthetic they envisioned.
We Focused on Connection Before Photos
Before the session, we spent time talking about life, their relationship, and the proposal story. Building that connection beforehand helps couples feel comfortable in front of the camera and allows me to create images that feel natural rather than posed.
Engagement Photos Aren't Just for Traditional Weddings
Whether you're planning a large celebration, an intimate micro wedding, or an adventurous Tennessee elopement, your relationship deserves to be documented.
If you're looking for a Knoxville elopement photographer who will help with location ideas, outfit planning, and creating an experience that feels relaxed and true to you, I'd love to help you tell your story.
